Applications are invited from suitable candidates for being considered for award of SYLFF fellowship (Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund, endowment of Nippon Foundation.). Fellowship is intended to financially assist young students of social science and humanities with leadership potential . Maximum of four fellowships- two for MA, one for M.Phil and one for Ph.D students will be awarded. Numbers may vary depending on quality of the proposals. Orientation for writing a good research proposal under the SYLFF programme will be held at JU campus on 30.9.2003 at 11 am at Dr K.P Basu Memorial Hall.

  1. For each one year fellowship of US $1600 for MA, applicants must be enrolled with the MA first year and one year fellowship of US$ 2440 for M.Phil, applicants must be enrolled with M.Phil first year in the year 2003-2004 in Jadavpur University under the Faculty of Arts.

  2. For three year fellowship (of US $ 3400+3660+3920) for Ph.D. degree applicants must have completed a masters degree in subjects within the parameters of social science and humanities from any university willing to take registration under the Faculty of Arts Jadavpur University.


Fellowships will be paid monthly in Indian rupee value determined by the exchange rate prevailing as on date of payment.

Application form will be available on payment of cash Rs 50/- between 10.9.2003 – 29.9.2003 or by post sending a request by 20.9.2003 with a DD of Rs 50/- and self addressed stamped envelope of A4 size from the Information Office, Aurobindo Building, Jadavpur University, Kolkata: 700 032. India. Completed application form must be sent to Prof. Joyashree Roy, SYLFF Project Director, Department of Economics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata: 700 032 by 7.11.2003. Temporary Job Opening/Appointment of part time SYLFF Project Assistant
.
Nature of Job: Academic and administrative support to the SYLFF project director. (Brief details about SYLFF programme can be seen from www.jadavpur.edu and http://www.tkfd.or.jp/eng/division/fellowship/sylff/institutions/)

Nature of appointment: Temporary, Part time (two days in a week).

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant needs to be a student of the Faculty of Arts and has taken MA final examination in 2004 from Jadavpur University.

    Note: selected candidate will not be able to apply for SYLFF fellowship while in service.

  2. Essential: Proficiency in handling computer applications: MS office, web browsing, emailing.

  3. Desirable : writing skill in English language.

Pay: A lump sum amount @ Rs 250/- per day will be paid .

Application procedure:

There is no printed application form but the students need to type out the following format in A4 size paper and submit it to the Deputy Registrar's office (S. G. Sarkar).

A personal interview will be conducted by the SYLFF steering committee.

Important dates to note:

  1. Application should reach the office of the Deputy Registrar (S. G. Sarkar) no later than August 19, 2004.

  2. Interview with the applicants: August 20, 2004 , 11 am. At the committee room number 2 in Aurobindo building

  3. Appointment : From Fourth week of August .
