IN EMERGING AREAS
Appreciating the need for use of
Iho new technology the University has star led using computers for
different purposes (i) for enhancement of teaching learning process
(ii) for smqoth functioning of University administration including
financial documentation (ii) Library facility is also being extended
under the process of wide range of network of Computer application
for the convel1ienl activities of Students Teachers & Research
Workers.
The University has set up the School
of Education Technology in 1988 for an updated environment df teaching
and learning process. The school has developed a number of Computer
Aided Instruction Packages & Multimedia Packages for the U.G.
& P .G. students of Arts, Science and Engineering & Technology.
.The University has started selling Instructional Materials in the
form of CAI (Computer Aided lnstruction), Multimedia and Book. The
University is extending Material Development Programme in the form
of Multimedia, CAI & Web-based courseware. It is enhancing the
facilities in the departments for audio-visual & multimeJ;Jia
dissemination. At present the centre is conducting a number of self
financed courses in Computer Educalion. The University has already
started B.E. (Information Technology) and M.Tech. in Software Engineering;
5-semester (part-time) M. Tech. in Computer Technology and 4- semester
Master Degree Course on Multimedia Development - apart from the
regular courses like B.E. M.E. in Computer Science & Englneering
MCA(Master in Computer Applidation). The University has also its
own Web-site (i,e www.jadavpur .edu).
All the departments, Offices and Buildings of the Universily
are connected with Campus WAN (Campus Wide Computer Network) with
ATM technology based on Fiber Optic backbone. At present 500 modes
(approx.) connected with Campus WAN are operational and interactive
round the clock with Internet connectivity on VSNL Leased Line (512
KBps/Main Campus & 256 KBps/Salt Lake Campus with 2
MBps local lead) and ISDN Line.
