Courses of Study under the Faculty of Science
Postgraduate Courses
Master of Science (Day Course)
Two-year day courses leading to the degree of Master of Science
in Applied Geology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics and Physics.
Eligibility:
1. For Applied Geology: 3-year B.Sc. (Honours) degree in
Geological Sciences with Mathematics as a subsidiary subject. The
qualifying marks will be notified each year at the time of admission.
2. For Chemistry: 3-year B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Chemistry
with Mathematics as a subsidiary subject. The qualifying marks will
be notified each year at the time of admission.
3. For Electronics: 3-year B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Physics/Electronics
with
Mathematics as a subsidiary subject. The qualifying marks will be
notified each year at the time of admission.
4. For Mathematics: 3-year B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Mathematics.
The qualifying marks will be notified each year at the time of admission.
5. For Physics: 3-year B. Sc. (Honours) degree with Mathematics
as a subsidiary subject. The qualifying marks will Ibe notified
each year at the time of admission.
Admission in the SC/ST Category: Seats
are reserved for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates as per
rules.
SC/ST Certificates must be obtained from a competent authority in
the name of the candidates themselves, and attested copies attached
with the application. If the candidate is selected, the original
certificates will have to be produced for verification at the time
of interview and admission. Admission will be governed by G.O. no.
837- TW/Ec dt.12.9.96.
Admission in the Permanently Disabled Category: For admission
in this category to the M.Sc. course, all conditions (except as
regards minimum marks in the qualifying examination) are the same
as for the B.Sc. course.
Other information for admission to M.Sc. (day) courses
1. A student who has obtained Masters degree in any subject from
any University/
Institution is not eligible for admission to a Masters degree course
in a science subject at this University.
2. All courses are non-residential. Hostel seats are not guaranteed.
3. Candidates are required to bring all their original admit cards
and marksheets at the time of interview and at the time of admission.
The following items should also be produced at the time of admission:
(1) 3 copies of a recent passport-size photograph
(2) fee book (available from the University Information Counter)
(3) discontinuity certificate where applicable
(4) SC/ST or PO certificate where applicable
4. Detailed information about application and admission procedure
will be given along with the application form.
Master of Science (Evening Course)
Courses of three years' duration leading to the degree of Master
of Science in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Eligibility:
1. For Physics and Chemistry: B.Sc. Honours in the relevant
subject with at least 45% marks and Mathematics as a subsidiary
subject.
2. For Mathematics: B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics
For admission to Evening courses, preference will be given to
a) teachers who have completed one year's full-time service, teaching
the relevant subject, in a permanent post in a recognized Secondary
or Higher Secondary School;
b) (for Chemistry and Physics) laboratory technicians who are in
full-time service, in a post requiring practice of the relevant
subject, in the laboratory of a government department, government
undertaking.
Seats are reserved for SC/ST and Permanently Disabled candidates.
The rules governing admission in such categories are the same as
for the M.Sc. (day) course (see above).
Other Information for admission to the Master of Science (Evening
Course):
1. As in (1) for day course.
2.After two consecutive years of admission, every third year will
be a 'gap year' when no admissions will be conducted.
3.Where applicable, a No-objection Certificate must be submitted
from the present employer (by an authorized official competent to
issue such certificates) mentioning the candidate's present designation,
date of appointment, present salary and scale of pay.
4.Candidates are required to produce the same documents at the time
of admission as for the M.Sc. (day) course (see above).
Master of Technology in Biotechnology
A three-semester day course
Eligibility: B.E./B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical
Technology, Food Technology, Dairy Technology; or B.Pharm.; or M.Sc.
in a branch of Physical Science or Life Science.
Selection Procedure: on the basis of an admission test and
interview.
Master of Philosophy in Environmental Science
A course of one year's duration.
Eligibility: M;Sc. in any science discipline; or B.E. or
B.Tech. in any discipline; or M.A./M.Sc. in I Economics or Geography.
Candidates should have studied science at the (10+2) leve1 and obtained
at least 50% marks in Mathematics in the Higher Secondary or equivalent
examination.
Selection Procedure: on the basis of an admission test and
interview.
