Master of Philosophy
A day course of two
years' duration leading to the degree of Master of Philosophy in
Bengali, 6 Comparative Literature, Economics, English, History,
International Relations, Philosophy, Sanskrit or Women's Studies.
Conditions for eligibility:
Minimum 50% marks in M.A. /M.Sc. or equivalent examination in subjects
as specified below. For De SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement
will be 40% marks. It will be 47% marks for
(a) Permanently Disabled candidates,
(b) permanent full-time teachers with 5 years' experience in Government-recognized
Tt colleges, and
(c) for the Women's Studies course, permanent full-time research
officers with 5 years' experience in an women's centres in Indian
universities/recognized institutions.
For Bengali: in Bengali or Comparative Literature
For Comparative Literature: in any literature subject
For Economics: in Economics/Quantitative Economics
For English: in English or Comparative Literature
For History and Philosophy: in the relevant subject
For International Relations: in International Relations,
Political Science, Economics, Sociology or History (with at least
one paper on either Political Theory or International Relations).
For Sanskrit: in Sanskrit or Comparative Literature with
Sanskrit as a subsidiary subject at the undergraduate level
For Women's Studies: Master's degree or equivalent in any
subject including Engineering and Medical Science.
Selection Procedure:
For Bengali, Comparative Literature, English, History, International
Relations, Philosophy:
On the basis of equal weightage to marks obtained in (a) the M.A.
examination and (b) a written test. In all the above subjects except
Philosophy, candidates will have to obtain a minimum qualifying
mark of 50% in the written test.
For Economics:
80% weightage to M.A./M.Sc. marks and 20% to B.A. (Honours) marks.
For Sanskrit:
80% weightage to M.A. marks and 20% to the marks obtained in
a written admission test.
For Women's Studies:
On the basis of a written admission test, with 50% as the minimum
qualifying mark.
