SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES
The School of Languages is not a 'School' on the model
of the interdisciplinary Schools in the University. It is a facility
in the Faculty of Arts providing for language courses (Certificate,
Diploma and Advanced Diploma) in a number of Indian and foreign
languages.
Classes are held in the evening, in the premises of the Arts Building.
This ensures maximum utilisation of space and resources, and allows
students and staff to acquire knowledge of various languages as
ancillary training.
The courses being offered at present are
as follows:
Certificate Courses:
Indian Languages: Bengali, Sanskrit.
Courses in Tamil and Telugu are also available.
European Languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian
Diploma Courses:
Indian Languages: Bengali
European Languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese
Others: Japanese
Advanced Diploma:
Bengali
Course are conducted by part-time teachers, some of whom are, however,
members of the regular faculty of the University in various departments.
Teachers of French and Italian are provided by the consulates of
France (under the Indo-French Cultural Exchange Programme) and Italy.
The services of the Italian teacher are supported by the Italian
Consulate.
