SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
AND STRATEGIC STUDIES
A brief profile of the School:
The School of International Relations and Strategic Studies was
set up in 1987 'to encourage interdisciplinary programmes of advanced
study and research' in the field of international relations and
strategic studies. One of the aims of the School is to provide a
forum for interaction within this general field among the members
of the three Faculties of the University, to conduct research in
areas that cannot properly be dealt with within the confines of
a single department. Since its inception, the School has promoted
cooperation between scholars in analysing problems having multi-disciplinary
dimensions; by organising lectures, seminars and workshops; and,
in a limited way, by sponsoring styudies on specific areas and issues.
Some of these efforts have resulted in publications brought out
by the School, which have been acclaimed by the academic community.
Outline of the admin1istrative/academic structure
The School is governed by an admin1istrative Committee, and its academic
programmes are formulated by an Academic Committee. Both these committees
have members drawn from the different Faculties of the University;
the admin1istrative Committee also has external members.
The day-to-day functioning of the School is in charge of a Director.
There is also a Joint Director. Both these honorary positions have
been held so far by members of the Department of International Relations.
