FACULTY OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY--- Computer Science & Engineering Established in 1988, the department of Computer Science & Engineering is just 12 years old. Within this short span of time, it has been able to win acclaims and reputation for itself both for excellent in teaching and research activities. The lucrative nature of the discipline is also one of the important factors that have contributed substantially to its popularity within such a short span of time. Computer Science, as a full-fledged department might not be that old. But it carries with it the legacy of computer awareness that is intrinsic to the University culture. Electronic digital computers started to be operated in the university in the early sixties. In the year 1966, the 2nd generation general-purpose computer was commissioned in collaboration with Indian Statistical Institute. The department has already turned into a premiere centre of learning and research in the country. It has attracted the best of merits. Degrees offered /Intake

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Department has received financial assistance from UGC, DOE, NCERT, UNDP (UNIDO), Swiss Development Cooperation and the World Bank. Faculty members of the department have collaborated and are still collaborating with researchers at various institutes (both in India and abroad). Faculty members have worked at GMD (Germany), Brunel University (UK) and other institutes. Important scholarships/ fellowships won by them include Commonwealth Scholarship, Humboldt Fellowships, Fullbright Scholarships etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Genetic Algorithms At present, two thrust area projects, viz. Centre for Microprocessor Application for Training, Education and Research (CMATER) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Centre are continuing in the department. CMATER was created by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MGRD), Govt. of India, during the 6th plan period. The objectives of the Centre are to train teachers of some of the assigned engineering colleges/ universities and to set up infrastructural facilities for giving training and carrying out research and developmental activities in microprocessor and allied fields. From its inception, the work involving training and research in the Centre has continued successfully. CAD Centre was set up set up during the 6th plan period by the Department of Electronics (DOE), Govt. of India, in collaboration with UNDP to help and promote computer aided design activities among the industries, mainly in the fields of process control and heavy engineering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Continuing Education : Several continuing education programmes have been organised from time to time by the projects IMPACT, CAMATER and CAD for serving the need of both academic institutions and industries. Collaborative research work with other agencies: Project IMPACT with a funding of RS. 3.00 crores is collaborated
with CMC Ltd. (A Govt. of India Enterprise) for carrying out a number
