1. The Centre acts as the UGC-assigned Nodal Centre for 10 university centres in the field in West Bengal and the North-East. Apart from Jadavpur itself, the other 9 universities are:
Visva-Bharati, Rabindra Bharati, Burdwan, Kalyani, North Bengal, Dibrugarh, Gauhati,Manipur and North-Eastern Hill University

The functions of the Nodal Centre include:

 • Meeting officers and faculty members of the departments and centres

 • Visiting the departments and centres for better interaction

 • Suggesting ways and means of improving existing programmes and introducing new ones

 • Taking up major issues of common interest with the UGC and state governments

 • Reporting to the UGC on the activities of the departments and centres
