Academic contribution in last five years

Professor Swapan Chakravorty was Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, during January-April 2000. He read a paper at the World Shakespeare Congress in April 2001, which has been accepted for publication in the Congress proceedings forthcoming from the University of Delaware Press. In addition to his work as one of the editors of the new critical edition of the works of Thomas Middleton being published by Oxford University Press, he is also one of the translators for the series of Oxford Tagore Translations, having contributed 14 translations to the volume of Selected Writings on Literature and Language, published in 2001. He has written and published widely in Bengali and English during the past few years in the field of nineteenth and twentieth century cultural studies as well as the Renaissance. He directed a Departmental Refresher Course in 1997. He is in charge of Departmental and DSA Library acquisitions, and has very ably co-ordinated purchases during the past five years under Recurring and Non-Recurring grants. He has contributed articles to the Departmental book projects Renaissance Texts and Contexts (Macmillan) and Literature and Philosophy (Papyrus), and a section to English for All (Macmillan). Professor Swapan Chakravorty and Dr Abhijit Gupta have jointly edited BOHI: History of the Book in India, a forthcoming DSA publication. Professor Chakravorty and Dr Indira Chowdhury are continuing their work as editors of an English-Bengali Dictionary commissioned from the Department by Oxford University Press. Professor Sukanta Chaudhuri is Advisor to the latter project.
