Dr Amlan Das Gupta
Amlan Das
Gupta was Visiting Fellow at Delhi University in 2005. He has
recently published an edition of Measure for Measure (Orient
Longman, New Delhi, 2004); a translation of Premendra Mitra’s Ghana-da
stories (Penguin India, 2004) and a chapter in Bharati Ray (ed.)
Women of India: Colonial and Post-Colonial Periods (PHISPC/Sage,
New Delhi, 2005). He has published an edition of Aristotle's
Poetics (New Delhi: Longmans/Pearson, 2006) and an edited volume
titled Music and Modernity: Indian Music in an Age of Mechanical
Reproduction (Kolkata: Thema, 2007). He directed a conference
entitled "Arts and Aesthetics in India, 1800-2000", held to mark the
Golden Jubilee of the University, and is at present engaged in
editing the proceedings of the conference for publication by the
Book Review Trust, New Delhi. He co-coordinated a conference titles
Food: Representation, Ideology and Politics in 2006.
He
continues his voluntary labour in teaching Latin and Classical Greek
in the Department. His research and teaching interests include
classical European literature, the history of Christianity and 16th
and 17th century English literature. He also researches, writes and
lectures on issues relating to the history and preservation of North
Indian classical music, and is currently building a major digital
archive of classical music at the School of Cultural Texts and
Records, Jadavpur University.
