Faculty of Arts - Comparative Literature

Academic contribution in last five years

1. The Department is the nodal centre for the study and research in Indian literatures and for the theory and methodology of Comparative Literature in the multicultural context. In this regard, we are in the process of putting together an archive on Indian literatures in both original and translations.

2. The Department has played a pioneering role in the Indian Comparative Literature movement and has thus made a significant contribution to the international Comparative Literature movement.

3. Comparative courses on Literatures of Africa, Canadian Literatures, Latin American Literatures and Literature of Bangladesh are the only ones of their kind in the country.

4. Individual faculty members and students have worked with the District Primary Education Programme for the reformulation of syllabi and production of textbooks for teaching of Bangla literature and language at primary levels in state-aided schools.

5. We have hosted several foreign scholars who have interacted with students and faculty members through open lectures and smaller meetings.

6. The department has proposed the establishment of a School of African Studies in the Faculty of Arts.

7. In conjunction with three other departments, the Department of Comparative Literature has also established a School of Canadian Studies in the Faculty of Arts.
