FACULTY OF ARTS----Bengali The Bengali department in the Faculty of Arts, Jadavpur University., that was established in 1956, is highly acclaimed as a distinguished department of teaching and research, the reputation being enhanced by the fact that since its inception, the department has had as its teachers, some of the luminaries of Bengali literature. Old and Medieval Literature
The research activities of the department concentrate on linguistics, medieval Bengali literature, Nineteenth Centuries Studies, Tagore Studies, Modern Bengali literature including poetry, novel, short stories and drama. The department has taken initiative to publish "Journal Bengali Department". The department organises Satinath Bhaduri Endowment lecture and Nabinchandra Sen Memorial lecture once a year.
