Welcome to Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is a State University under the State of West Bengal. Its parent institution was set up by the National Council of Education, Bengal in 1906. After India's Independence, the institution was converted to a University under the first Jadavpur University Act in 1955, and recognised by the University Grants Commission the same year . Jadavpur University has been declared as the Centre of Excellence in Mobile Computing and Communication by the University Grants Commission. The university has also been accredited with the status of five star by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee.

The Engineering Faculty has long been known for its excellence in training and in path-breaking research. The Science Faculty goes from strength to strength in its teaching programmes and research in frontier areas of knowledge.

The Arts Faculty boasts many Departments of Special Assistance, including English and Comparative Literature, and has the only Department of Film Studies in the subcontinent.Research in inter-disciplinary and emerging areas happens to be one of its hallmarks. Jadavpur University is in Calcutta, famous for its cultural and intellectual heritage.

It had been the capital of British India for a long time, and has been a major centre of the Indian struggle for independence. Jadavpur University is a direct descendant of the movement for indigenous education in the modern sector, and the spirit is still strong in its programmes and practices.
